SVM Education Collaborates with Leading Organizations to Bring Professional and Tech Training to Villages

Smart
Village Movement – Education has been working with various established organizations to bring up courses on a
number of different topics with a rural-centric approach to create the Smart Village Centre for
Professional Development & Smart Village Academy.
The objective is to bridge the gap in
Professional Education by creating curriculum and courses catering to the needs and aspirations of rural youth.

All our partner companies in the SVM ecosystem would have the opportunity to offer courses through the SVM
platforms. Students in SVM areas of operation are encouraged to take the courses, however at the same time these
courses are open to all. In June, we started accepting applications for 4 courses on various disciplines.

SAVe Foundation’ s CAMP-S

A course for developing business perspectives and global mindset by the professionals from SAVe
Foundation.

Navgurukul’s Meraki

A 3-month readiness program on introductory programming and touch typing.

IBM’s Data Science Course

A beginners Data Science course involving Python language from one of the leading global organizations –
IBM.

Recykal’s Changemakers Course

Recykal, which focuses on waste management, offers knowledge and skills on environmental impacts to
create responsible jobs.

COVID-19 Vaccination Drives

The COVID-19 campaigns and the vaccination drives which were started in May 2021 continued with more coverage in the month of June. With the aim of achieving 100% vaccination coverage in all the villages within our reach, our vaccination drives in June were enhanced with improved vaccination supply which provided us with resources to vaccinate everyone over 18 years of age.

The Vaccination Drives were organized in three major blocks of East Khasi Hills District – Laitkroh, Sohiong, and Mawphlang Block.

SVM Initiatives for COVID Relief

Basin Setups in Villages for
Washing Hands

One of the concerns of the Health Department and SVM is of people not washing their hands frequently during this COVID-19 wave. In the past few weeks, we established handwashing stations with water tanks and attached washbasins in populated main areas. These will continue to be maintained by the village community going forward. This setup was done in the villages of Mawjrong and Deingkynthong of the Laitkroh block and in Tyrsad from the Mawphlang block.

Distributing Free Cloth Masks

By distributing free cloth masks with the help of the National Health Ministry of Meghalaya to everyone who participates in our vaccination drives, we encouraged the practice of double masking among the people. Since we encourage the practice of compulsory masking, using hand sanitizers frequently, and social distancing in our vaccination drives, we want to promote more COVID-19 preventive measures through our interventions in the villages.

Coupon Distribution in Villages

SVM supports and appreciates the work taken up by the community members, healthcare workers, and other stakeholders for the vaccination drives and all of our COVID-19 relief efforts. To show our appreciation and incentivize them for their continued efforts, we are providing coupons to selected members depending on their work. The coupons can be used to purchase essential rations in the village shops. 20 members from Mawjrong (Laitkroh Block) have been recognized and incentivized by the village COVID-19 management team.

Mobilization Activities for Awareness

Our Vaccination drives were started with the aim of achieving 100% vaccination in the villages. Over the past two months of our campaign, we have been tackling the communities’ vaccination hesitancy, concerns, and promoting awareness within the community by organizing regular mobilization programs. Our team met with village administrators for understanding the reason behind the hesitancy to doing house-to-house visits with focus groups, we educate and encourage residents to take the vaccine.

Solar Energy Setup for our Rural Salesforce Education Labs Nears Completion

Hygge Energy is creating a renewable energy trading and EV charging marketplace for communities globally that will reduce energy prices for consumers, improve returns for utilities, and increase ROI for solar and other local power generation owners.

Their piloting of the microgrid provides renewable energy to our “Salesforce Trailblazer Labs” and E-Bike charging stations. These computer labs are set up by Salesforce in two of our villages – Wahlyngkien Sunei and Sohrarim to promote education and livelihood training in the rural areas.

With the solar panels having arrived in Meghalaya, the Lab has been equipped with the power grid required for all its energy needs. This has gotten us one step closer to the opening of the labs to the public.

Gramin Healthcare Organizes Pharmacy Health Camps to Make Medicines More Accessible

The Gramin Healthcare Centre in Sohrarim has been regularly getting growing numbers of patients every day. Along with that, Gramin’s first Pharmacy Franchise Health Camp opened in Laitryngew to a great response from the local community.

The patients’ feedback was very encouraging as they have appreciated the low fee charged for the medical services and medicines.

SVM Partners with Nordic Asia Impact for Independent Research Projects to Find Solutions for Rural Issues

SVM, in alliance with the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business, has entered a technological collaboration with Nordic Asia Impact (NAI), Sweden.

For the first phase, 20 Sustainability Analysts or Consultants from Nordic Asia Impact (NAI) spread across 10 countries will work towards critical challenges faced in the rural segments of Meghalaya and Andhra Pradesh, India.

Moving Forward

Positive Population Management

Positive Population Management is a Government supported program for Ri Bhoi District in Meghalaya, to undertake a universal health screening (with the use of AI) and encourage people to participate in diagnostic tests at the local Community Health Centres. This will allow the healthcare system to identify specific problem areas and build referral pathways for the rural population in a preventive and positive way.

Apollo Hospitals – Tele Health Services

Apollo Hospitals – TeleHealth Services proposes to offer specialty and super-specialty Teleconsultation services in the telemedicine facilities. These services would be based on an online appointment booking system facilitated by a telemedicine coordinator. A coordinator will also ensure that the patient is able to consult with the concerned doctor without any difficulty and the outcome of the consultation is explained to the patient in their regional language. The patient’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) will be updated and a printout of the e-prescription will be issued to the patient

Salesforce Labs Starting Operations to the Public

Salesforce Trailblazer Labs, at Sunei and Sohrarim, are set to start their functions to the public with the power grid getting done by Hygge. The labs house a community library, computers, and other educational tools. In the Lab premises, Curiosity Gym’s “Innovation Hubs” will also begin their operations bringing learning opportunities to the public.
