New Markets Could be Created by Rural Potentials,

Which Could Lead to a Rise in Employment

-APJ Abdul Kalam

Dear Friends,

The beginning of 2022 brings much promise, in spite of a surge in Omicron virus cases in Meghalaya, as in other parts of India. We did not slow our efforts in launching and spreading our message of Positive Public Healthcare Management (PPHM) in Meghalaya. 150,000 villagers stand to benefit from this Preventive Healthcare initiative that moves underserved populations from a Disease Management mindset to Disease Prevention. This newsletter will bring you up to speed on how medical AI is being deployed to build a healthier, more health-aware population.

Our Education sector sees success with scaling of our two Salesforce Labs that has been hugely successful in the pilot phase. These will now be a Government of Meghalaya undertaking to scale up to 20 more CM Youth Labs across different districts in Meghalaya.

Thank you for your good wishes and support, as we continue to build Smart Villages in India, one village at a time.

SVM Launches a First-in-India Healthcare Initiative – Positive Public Healthcare Management (PPHM) for Disease Management

After months of careful planning and collaborations with the Department of Health and Family Welfare in Meghalaya, Meghalaya Basin Development Agency, Healthcare AI screening partner Maya MD, KRSNAA as our Diagnostics partner, and Martin Luther Christian University as our Mobilisation partner, our first-of-kind Positive Public Healthcare Management (PPHM) pilot project was launched in Meghalaya. The project’s primary goal is to make a paradigm shift in India, from Disease Management to Disease Prevention, and promote health-seeking behavior. The collaboration of SVM, MBDA, and NHM will provide a connected digital healthcare delivery platform and network to the population of Meghalaya. The mission of this project would be to take 43 Positive Health Parameters chosen for the state of Meghalaya and bring them to WHO standards in the district of Ri Bhoi, an aspirational district in Meghalaya over the next 7 years. Our digital solutions partner MAYA MD brings Artificial Intelligence and physician expertise to reduce disease management expenditure and increase longevity. Read more

CM Youth Labs to Scale to 20 New Locations

SVM’s landmark education Open-Innovation project Salesforce Community Trailblazer Labs brings technology, educational resources, and skills to the students and also to the rural community. These two model labs were established through the collaborative action of SVM with our facilitating partner Sauramandala Foundation, along with the implementation partners, the Open Door Project, Project Defy, Curiosity Gym, Tiny Owl, and energy partner, Hygge Energy aiming to empower the local community with education and skills in two locations – Sohrarim and Nongwa in the Khasi Hills of Meghalaya.
With the completion of a successful pilot and the resulting deep engagement from the students, these model labs have been appreciated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Meghalaya, government officers, and the community; which is now being scaled to 20 new locations across Meghalaya under the banner of CM Youth Labs. These labs will continue to develop tech skills, hands-on learning, 3D printing, and library access for around 50,000 students in Meghalaya. Invest India Partners with SVM for Lakadong Turmeric Drone Delivery Event

Lakadong Turmeric from West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, one of the world’s finest turmeric varieties with the highest curcumin content of 7-9% (in comparison to 3% or less in other varieties) – is fast becoming a game-changer in the economy of the district.
The One District, One Product (ODOP) Initiative under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, is a key contributor to the same with the successful trade facilitation of 13,136 kgs of sliced and dried Lakadong Turmeric to a large food processing industry in Ernakulam, Kerala in 2021. Under ‘Lakadong Turmeric 2.0’, new efforts are being planned to scale up procurements for sustainable sales for the harvest season of 2022 and the years to come.
Furthermore, to leverage modern technology to further the impact of the same, a Fly-off event was organized in West Jaintia Hills district, Meghalaya, on the 5th of February 2022. The event demonstrated the use of UAVs/Drones as payload delivering devices which would help in ensuring the 1st-mile connectivity for Lakadong Turmeric farmers from the hinterland.
This event was conducted in collaboration with Smart Village Movement (SVM) who, supported by the Government of Meghalaya, had already demonstrated the use of drones for medicine delivery in November 2021. Read more
