FLN Refresher Training Enhances Teacher Skills in Foundational Literacy and Numeracy

Smart Village Movement, October 30, 2024

The Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Refresher Training, conducted collaboratively by the Smart Village Movement (SVM) and Madhi Foundation, took place on October 17th and 18th. This training aimed to equip teachers with essential skills for effectively utilizing the teachers’ handbooks and supporting students in their Mathematics and English workbooks. Tailored for Class 1 and Class 2, the training introduced two instructional levels, ensuring that learning resources align with age-appropriate skill development.

Over two days, four training sessions were held at various locations of Samanda Block, East Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, drawing participation from 101 teachers across the region. Each session included hands-on guidance from facilitators, allowing teachers to familiarise themselves with strategies for grouping students, assessing foundational concepts, and maximising workbook exercises. In addition to developing place-value understanding in Mathematics and comprehension in Literacy, teachers explored activities and resources to reinforce learning through practical application.

Teacher engagement was notably high, reflecting their commitment to FLN’s goals. Moving forward, CRCs and Project Associates will conduct classroom observations to monitor progress and evaluate the impact of this training on student learning.
