In Some Way, To Make Life a Litle Better To Live
-E.B.Scripps
Dear Friends,
This month Smart Village Movement has a lot to be grateful for.
Our esteemed Chief Minister Honorable Conrad K. Sangma has actively supported and spent some time visiting our Meghalaya pilot projects. After visiting the SalesForce Trailblazer Lab, Farmer Development Center, inaugurating two SVM-Apollo Clinics, and our Tech Eagle Drone pilot launch, Smart Village Movement has successfully demonstrated the impact and sustainability of our model. We are now primed to scale these efforts throughout the state and explore collaborative partnerships in other Indian states.
International Giving Tuesday was on November 30, 2021. If you missed us in your inbox then, we hope you will consider extending your support to alleviate rural poverty with our smart, sustainable model. We know there are many wonderful causes to contribute to, thank you for choosing the Berkeley-Haas Smart Village Movement that improves the lives of everyone affected by socio-economic inequities. SVM has the potential to help millions of underserved villagers around the world, together we can help empower them with self-reliance and access to things we take for granted.
Thank you, as always, for being with us! The impact of your support is truly beyond measure.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma Inaugurates
SVM-Apollo Clinic in West Garo Hills

The Apollo TeleHealth Digital Dispensary, an SVM Healthcare initiative in Tura, West Garo Hills was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya Shri. Conrad K Sangma on the 19th of November, 2021. The Digital Dispensary in Tura is one of five centers established to create easy access to specialists and diagnostic testing services to rural populations. The Chief Minister has noted that initiatives that bridge the rural-urban divide are the need of the hour, and the Digital Dispensaries will be a tool to spearhead technology-enabled healthcare. Watch the Video Here
Kratos Launches Foodlens Technology to Support Small Farmers

In November Smart Village Movement introduced our latest pilot with Kratos Innovation Labs whose FoodLens technology for Spatial Imagery enables marginal farmers to track from sowing to harvest. Farmers will now have access to critical data about micronutrients, moisture, proof of quality, and market linkages in Khasi and English, and can use the data to optimize the usage of inputs as well as increase yield.  This provides full visibility of the harvest to food processors and FMCGs to procure directly from marginal producers/co-operatives. Through an entrepreneur-based model, the pilot will introduce satellite-enabled farm data inputs to rural Meghalaya. Our supply chain research in Meghalaya shows that the food supply chain needs a digital revamp which can be achieved by providing small farmers with the right digital technology. FoodLens aims to enable sustainability and financial inclusion to marginal producers and make them bankable again. Drone Pilot Launched for Healthcare Delivery

On the 26th of November 2021, we successfully piloted the use of Drones in the Healthcare sector. The drone was deployed to deliver medicines to a remote primary health center in West Khasi Hills; reducing the usual delivery time of 3 hours to less than half an hour. The pilot was a joint effort by the Govt. of Meghalaya and the Smart Village Movement – Berkeley Haas, with the collaborative objective to study the “feasibility and effectiveness of smart aerial logistics for multiple service delivery mechanisms”. The program was supported by the office of the National Health Mission, Meghalaya. The pilot was conducted with our logistics partner, Tech Eagle, a pioneer in Hybrid VTOL drones. The event was virtually witnessed by the Honourable Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri Conrad K Sangma. Mr. Conrad, who praised the pilot and noted the social benefits of using drones in healthcare. His remarks about the pilot and the next steps were shared on his social media handles. Read more…

Apollo Expands Outreach Efforts

Apollo TeleHealth goes the extra distance in providing underserved rural communities quality healthcare under Smart Village Movement’s Pilot Program. Outreach activities are conducted 2-3 times per week to promote health-seeking behavior in the villages surrounding Apollo TeleHealth’s 5 Digital Dispensaries across 3 districts in Meghalaya. Villagers are educated and encouraged to utilize the facilities of the Telehealth Centres like access to doctor consultations, diagnostic services, and medicines at affordable rates. Apollo’s Junior Executives conduct focus-group discussions with key stakeholders like the village headmen, Village Employment Council, Self Help Groups, senior citizens, and mothers whose families would otherwise have to travel for hours to receive medical help. Smart Village Movement in alliance with Berkeley Haas is proud to partner with Apollo TeleHealth’s integrated healthcare system that harnesses the power of technology for bringing quality healthcare closer to underserved communities.
SVM Blog: Smart Village Movement Logistical Solutions: Drones Delivering Care in Rural India

Meghalaya’s unique terrain combined with climatic conditions, road connectivity, and sporadic populations create a need for innovative logistics solutions. Studying the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of using new-age, smart delivery solutions can enhance time and resource management for the healthcare system in the state while improving quality of life in sustainable ways. We partnered with Tech Eagle Innovation to find a smart logistics solution for the rural communities of Meghalaya. Their logistics expertise and experience with the support of the Government of Meghalaya has given us a launch-ready solution that can have an immense and profound impact on thousands of people in rural Meghalaya.
