Annu Johny

Regional Associate

I am Annu Johny, a resident of Delhi having my roots in Kerala. I am inquisitive by nature and am always looking for opportunities to learn and grow. I realised my passion for working in the development sector during my schooling days but wasn’t sure about how to go about it.

I went on to do my graduation in Economics from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University. I juggled my studies with internships and volunteer work in different initiatives such as such as the National Service Scheme, ‘Teach India’ and organisations like ‘BloodConnect’ and Koshish. These experiences strengthened my resolve to work in this field and hence I pursued my Post-graduation in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. The course equipped me with theoretical knowledge, enhanced my knowledge in research and analysis and also gave me experiences of working with government officials, institutions as well as communities.

Post the completion of my Masters program when I chanced upon the call for job applications from the Smart Village Movement, I didn’t have any second thoughts. Here was an organisation that offered me opportunities to add meaning to a community’s life while also giving me the space to grow as a professional. The range of exposure I could get through interactions with government officials, corporates, academia and the community members was unparalleled.

Fast-forward three months; I am now a part of the Smart Village family where my professional life is about much more than just earning money. Though my friends and family are taken aback by my decision to leave the comforts of a city and live in remote villages in Arunachal Pradesh, I know I am on the right path!
